Is Your Vehicle A Peacock Tool?
My last post was in regards to cultural perceptions.
How we justify spending money (or basically our hard earned time and effort) on things that really aren't all around useful or logical to our own life situation but more or less to 'peacock' these status symbols.
So, why did you purchase your vehicle?
For speed? For the look/design?
Do you have a muffler that really does nothing but make your vehicle sound louder than it actually is?
I put in YEARS of thought on what vehicle I wanted, this is the reasoning behind my purchase:
We live in an extremely physical world.
To get from point A to B, unless you physically power your body with your own legs you need some sort of rubberized wheel powered by a motor fueled by oil. In my opinion, the best vehicle to get through any type of Canadian weather through your way is a Jeep.
Completely customizable, convertible in the summer with off-road/terrain climbing capabilities and 4x4 for when the winter snow hits.
Definitely takes some knowledge and skill building to own/maintain/drive this vehicle but my 23 year old beast gets me through anything the Canadian environment throws my way (with a little bit of extra gas guzzling unfortunately).
My vehicle is a tool to get me from point A to B.
Tools are an extension of the body.
Is your vehicle a peacock tool?
Do you pay hundreds/thousands of dollars every month on a car that can go 200km/hr when the maximum speed limit on 98% of your travels is 50-60km/hr? So you can compare your box on wheels to your buddies?
Stop peacocking, stop basing your choices in life on emotional connections you have to ideas of cultural perceptions on what is right/wrong.
This is VERY animalistic......
